Make sure to buy a reliable testing kit. Check water chemistry every other day and more often when temperatures are in the 80’s and 90’s. Also check more often when the pool is used frequently or by many people as sunscreen and body oils can affect chemical balance.
At least weekly and more often in the hot weather and following heavy use. Inspect the pool walls regularly to determine if any foreign material is blooming.
First turn off your auto fill. Make sure the pool water is halfway up the skimmer. Place a piece of tape at the water line and run pump for 24 hours. Note how many inches water has gone own. Repeat the 24 hour process without the pump running. If the water has dropped more than ½ inch contact a pool professional for further diagnosis.
Be sure to have a qualified swimming pool professional inspect the structure of the pool and filtration equipment to determine if the pool is in proper working condition or needs modification. Ask for the results in writing.
